Skywest Airlines Regional Carrier – The Customer Friendly Airline

October 24th 2011 -

The West Coast is the primary focus of Skywest Airlines but they also have partnerships with Delta and other international airlines. A great number of passengers are served daily after gradual growth from its beginning as a small airline in Utah in 1972. Neat facts about Skywest Airlines will be talked over in this article.

In 1972 when Ralph Atkin started Skywest Airlines in Utah only two cities were served: St. George and Salt Lake City. The hundreds of business travelers who frequented this route were their main business. Partnerships with many larger airlines including Air Tran, United, Delta, and most recently Alaska Airlines has lead Skywest to provide flights in Canada and the United States to over 100 cities. The U.S. regions of the Mid-West, West Coast and Southwest are serviced through its partners to many of the cities in these areas. There are currently almost 1500 daily departures for Skywest, so it’s come a long way since its humble beginnings forty years ago.

The only way to make a reservation for a Skywest Airlines flight is to work with one of the partner airlines. All Skywest Airlines flights are operated through its partners which include Delta, AirTran, Alaska, and United Airlines and as such Skywest does not take reservations or issue tickets directly. To book a flight you have a few choices: visit an airport ticket counter, call the airlines or visit their websites. A discount broker or travel service may also book a flight with Skywest. If you are not booking a flight through an airline check to make sure the company is reputable before you purchase your ticket.

Because Skywest Airlines is a regional carrier, there are certain space and other limitations you may have to contend with. This means that some of its policies are more restrictive than those of its larger partner airlines. For example, there are certain larger items you cannot bring on a Skywest flight, such as large pet kennels, kayaks and windsurf equipment. Also, on SkyWest flights you cannot check live animals as baggage as you can on some larger airlines. Check ahead of time before you fly with this airline if you have any special requirements. Items you can bring onto a regional airline will generally be limited because the planes are smaller in size. After seeing what Skywest Airlines has to offer, perhaps you can determine what is right for your future plans to travel. Routinely a strong local carrier such as Skywest is the better and more effective route to gain entrance into a vacation place or a city that is little. Now offering a multitude of options, if you have not viewed Skywest Airlines in recent months you might want see what they propose at this time.
